Manthal Buddha Rock – Ancient Buddhist Heritage in Skardu!
Located just a few kilometers from Skardu city, the Manthal Buddha Rock is a massive granite boulder etched with a large relief sculpture of Buddha, surrounded by smaller carvings of attendants and symbols. Believed to date back to the 8th–10th century CE, the rock stands as a silent witness to the Buddhist era of Baltistan, when this region was part of the Great Silk Route and deeply influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.
This site is one of the few remaining Buddhist archaeological landmarks in Pakistan, preserved in a peaceful rural setting.
