let's travel north

Ghizer!

Ghizer District lies in the westernmost part of Gilgit-Baltistan and is often called the “Land of Lakes and Colorful Rivers.” It stretches from Punial Valley all the way to Shandur Pass (the highest polo ground in the world). The region is known for its lush green meadows, alpine lakes, trout-filled rivers, and peaceful villages with stunning mountain backdrops.

Routes to Ghizer

Ghizer Valley is accessible primarily by road from Gilgit city, which serves as the regional hub of Gilgit-Baltistan. The main route begins from Gilgit and follows the Gilgit–Shandur Road (also called the Gilgit–Chitral Road or N-140), passing through breathtaking valleys like Sher Qilla, Gupis, Khalti, Phander, and eventually leading to Shandur Pass. The road is fully motorable and generally in good condition during the summer months, with public vans and private jeeps available. The journey from Gilgit to Phander takes around 6 to 8 hours, depending on weather and road conditions. Although there is no direct air access to Ghizer, visitors can fly into Gilgit Airport from Islamabad and continue their journey by road. For travelers coming from Chitral, Ghizer can also be reached via the historic Shandur Pass, which connects the two regions, though this route is only open in the summer due to heavy snowfall in winter. The drive offers stunning views of rivers, lakes, meadows, and mountain peaks, making the journey itself a scenic experience.
