roundu!
Roundu Valley is a lush, mountainous region located between Skardu and Gilgit in Gilgit-Baltistan. Administratively, it’s a tehsil of Skardu District, but geographically it forms a key transition zone between Baltistan and the rest of Gilgit-Baltistan. The valley lies along the Skardu–Gilgit Road, surrounded by majestic peaks, rivers, farmlands, and dense forests. Its strategic location makes it a gateway to Skardu from the Karakoram Highway.
Roundu is lesser-known than other valleys, but its authentic rural charm, natural beauty, and unexplored treks make it an emerging tourist spot. Key areas in Roundu include Tormik, Mindi, Stak, Gunji, and Haramosh — many of which lie near major glaciers and high peaks.

Routes to roundu
Roundu Valley lies directly on the main road between Gilgit and Skardu, making it one of the easiest-access valleys in Baltistan. The main access route is via the Skardu–Gilgit Road, also known as Jaglot–Skardu Road, which branches off from the Karakoram Highway (KKH) at Jaglot, near Gilgit. Travelers coming from Islamabad or other cities usually reach Gilgit via the KKH or a flight and then proceed towards Roundu by road. The drive from Gilgit to Roundu takes approximately 4 to 6 hours, depending on road and weather conditions. Alternatively, if you’re coming from Skardu, Roundu is just 3 to 4 hours away by car, making it a convenient stop en route to Gilgit. The road follows the Indus River, winding through gorges and cliffs, with Roundu’s villages nestled along the valley floor. In summer, the road is fully accessible, while in winter some upper areas may face snowfall-related blockages. The valley also connects to several trekking routes, including those leading into Haramosh, Stak, and even Chogo Lungma Glacier in Shigar District.
