Skardu Fort (Kharpocho) – The Fortress Above Skardu!
Built in the 16th century by Raja Ali Sher Khan Anchan, the legendary ruler of Baltistan, Skardu Fort, or Kharpocho Fort (meaning “King of Forts”), stands as a testament to Baltistan’s royal and military past. Strategically located on a hill, the fort overlooks Skardu city, the mighty Indus River, and the entrances to the Shigar and Satpara valleys.
Though now in ruins, its stone architecture, panoramic views, and ancient legends make it one of the most rewarding hikes and heritage spots in Skardu.
